It’s my annual post to remember Paul Wellstone on the anniversary of his death. It’s been 14 years since he died in a plane crash during his re-election campaign, along with his his wife Sheila, his daughter Marcia, and three members of his campaign staff – Tom Lapic, Mary McEvoy, and Will McLaughlin. He was, before his death, the voice in the Senate that today is usually filled by Bernie Sanders.
Before another ambitious politician said it, and nowhere near the progressive Paul was, Paul said: “I represent the Democratic wing of the Democratic party.” (During his 2000 presidential exploratory campaign.)
