A little thing to remember when you see unemployment seem to get “better”. There is more here than meets the eye.
Dean Baker points out in a “Jobs Flash” that there is a good reason when unemployment was 7.2 percent in September, the employment rate remained unchanged at 58.6 percent:
This continues the pattern that we have seen throughout the recovery as the unemployment rate falls mainly because workers leave the labor market.
Meaning: people can’t find decent work so they give up and, then, are not counted.
