My obvious failure to post in the morning was not due to laziness or sleeping late (oh, that would be nice). Rather, it was a hectic morning but, here I am, back at my post and…I will be on Larry Kudlow’s show tonight (7 Eastern time) to talk about the bankruptcy deal reached between the United Auto Workers and General Motors:
The United Auto Workers Union union said Friday afternoon that hourly employees at General Motors had overwhelmingly ratified a cost-cutting deal that would help smooth the automaker’s path through bankruptcy.
The accord was approved with 74 percent voting in favor, the union said at a news conference.
“We are satisfied we’ve done the right thing here to give us a lifeline at General Motors to move forward until this company rebounds,” U.A.W. president Ron Gettelfinger said at a news conference.
In a statement, Diana Tremblay, vice president for G.M.’s labor relations, said: “We very much appreciate the support of our employees and retirees. Their shared sacrifices will enable G.M. to become a stronger, more viable company that will continue to deliver world-class cars and trucks.”
It will be interesting to see how the wingers and the anti-union nuts out there try to spin this one because, once again, the workers have taken a hit to try to save GM. Time after time, UAW members have given up wages, benefits, vacation…you name it…to try to save a mismanaged company. Maybe for once, my TV fencing buddy Larry will concede that, yes, thank god for the union.
Right.
