A Rebellion? A State Fed President Predicts

Over the wire came this short message from a president of an AFL-CIO state federation who asked that I not use any name when posting this–but did give me permission to post. “CTW” refers to the Change To Win Coalition, in case anyone was still wondering, and “JwJ” stands for Jobs With Justice…

“Your blog has been a godsend to me – I feel like it has been a reality touchstone. On one hand – I am very excited about the CtW proposals, on the other had – I do not want see a public spectacle and divisive split. I think the real test is going to happen on the state/local level and with rank and file, if Sweeney & the Fed try and purge dissaffiliated unions I think we are going to see a rebellion, some of which will be in the form of members doing their ‘real’ work within the framework of organizations like JwJ. and some in the form of completely ignoring the directive. All the convention hoopla and rah, rah is fine – but when the rubber meets the road – I think the shit is going to hit the fan.”
