The newest scam comes courtesy of the airline industry. When Republicans, in their lunatic mode, refused to reauthorize the Federal Aviation Administration, several federal taxes on tickets expired, including a 7.5% sales tax on domestic tickets, a $3.70-per-takeoff segment fee, and a $16.30 charged on international arrival and departures. Aha, you would think, ticket prices would go down.
Sucker! The airlines–with the exception of Alaska Airlines and Spirit–simply raised ticket prices so they could pocket roughly $30 million a day. By the way, that does not mean your bag is now free or meals are back. Ha! Sucker!
