This was rumored for some time–yesterday, Assemblyman Roger Green tossed his hat into the ring, declaring that he would challenge Rep. Ed Towns, one of the two CAFTA 15 members who hail from New York City (yes, this is quite sad that 2 of the 15 come from one of the more progressive cities in the country).
Green has a lot of good things going for him and he’d likely get a good amount of support from labor. Towns has got a lot of dough and knows how to work the streets for votes. So, could be interesting. City Councilman Charles Barron andKevin Powell, a writer and the founder of HipHop Speaks, are also in the race. The district covers East New York and Bedford-Stuyvesant, moves into Fort Greene and, then, into Brooklyn Heights and Cobble Hill.
The New York Times gives it a short treatment in the Metro section.
