The people spoke clearly Tuesday–about the rights of people to make a living. At least, if you’re making minimum wage. Across the nation, in case you missed it, every ballot initiative passed that called for raising the minimum wage above the pathetic federal level of $5.15 per hour:
Arizona: 66 percent-34 percent
Colorado: 53-47
Missouri: 76-24 (and who doesn’t think that that margin helped Claire McCaskille win her Senate race?)
Montana: 73-27 (ditto for helping Jon Tester defeat Conrad “I’m Napping” Burns).
Nevada: 69-31
Ohio: 56-44
It’s important to raise the minimum wage. But, the broader fight is around making sure people don’t have to resort to minimum wage jobs. And, so, let’s see what the Democrats do to begn pushing for fair labor laws.
