Four Years Too Long

In lamenting the devastation of the war, the media typically focuses on the 3,216 American soldiers who have been killed in the war. And, yes, I can’t stand reading the lists of the dead because you just see the lives of 20-year-old kids gone, poof…

But, let’s remember that over half a million–500,000 AND UP, some estimate are much higher–Iraqis have been killed because of our government’s immorality, stupidity, arrogance and outright lying. Ninety percent of Iraqis believe the violence in their country will strike them. They must be truly thankful for the Administration’s decision to “liberate” their country. Ugh.

On the other hand, it is quite a scandal that the Democratic Party does not have the spine to simply end the war by cutting off the funding. Once again, the Democrats have lost the framing of the debate over funding by letting themselves respond to the “cutting and running” argument. By responding to the terminology, you are reinforcing it. Rather than ignore it and say: we have listened to the people, they want the war to end and it is time to get out now. Instead, the Democrats’ bill that is going to the House floor continues to fund the killing. Don’t they get it?
