I’ve sort of left the Beast of Bentonville alone for the past few weeks. Not that I haven’t thought about the boys from Arkansas. Today, Steven Greenhouse has a piece on the organization (registration required) started in Tampa, Florida which is trying to recruit Wal-Mart workers pre-union status. That is, bring people in so they can begin to connect with each other and build a community of interests outside of the usual war they might face against the Beast if they tried to form a union.

The interesting thing here is that this is an experiment (not the first one) to see if pre-union organizations can lay the groundwork for unionization, or perhaps some other configuration where workers have power in the workplace.
