The always-helpful Lane Windham sent along a comparison prepared by the AFL-CIO that examines the difference between the AFL-CIO Officers proposals versus the insurgents proposals. I’ve provided it here for people to peruse and appreciate Lane’s response to my request. You can also compare the AFL-CIO officers comparison to a comparison put out by the insurgents.
A couple of things jump out at my weary eyes (I’m going to read this more carefully over the weekend and, if I have anything useful to say…or just want to pontificate…I’ll do so later)–The comparison asserts that, “The proposals are more alike than different in
their goals and principles for major programmatic
areas” but underscores an important perceived differences in “rebuilding state and local capacity and in
organizing.”
But, the bottom line for the AFL-CIO officers is this: “The proposals, then, are substantially similar. The
AFL-CIO officers are committed to continuing to
listen and debate these diffrences. The inevitable
question that arises is this: Are these narrowing
differences grounds for leaving and splitting the
labor movement?”
I post. You decide.
