Public Backs Workers

   The tide is with us:

As labor battles erupt in state capitals around the nation, a majority of Americans say they oppose efforts to weaken the collective bargaining rights of public employee unions and are also against cutting the pay or benefits of public workers to reduce state budget deficits, according to the latest New York Times/CBS News poll.

Maybe this will help the president grow a set of cojones and get out there squarely on the side of the workers and stop uttering pablum like this:

"I know many of you are making decisions regarding your public work forces and I know how difficult that can be," Obama told the governors.  "I recently froze the salaries of federal employees for two years. It wasn’t something I wanted to do, but I did it because of the very tough fiscal situation we are in. I believe that everybody should be prepared to give up something in order to solve our budget challenges. I think most public servants agree with that. Democrats and Republicans agree with that." [emphasis added]

Uh, no, ask Wall St and the richest among us to give it up first before you come chopping at the victims of the economic crisis.
