The Beast’s Appetite Grows

Back in the wild and crazy world of the Beast of Bentonville, today’s Financial Times has a front-page story about Wal-Mart’s plans to expand into central and eastern Europe. And its also licking its chops at the prospect of moving into more countries in “Latin America, in addition to Mexico, Brazil and Argentina, where it already has a presence, while it was looking closely at India.”

Wonder whether it’s looking at how easily it can violate child labor laws in those countries–part of its way of doing business in the good ‘ole U.S.A.

Oh, and if you pity those people who work for Wal-Mart suppliers who get tranferred to serve time in Bentonville, don’t worry. According to the Washington Post’s piece today, a whole host of new upscale stores are opening up in the Beast’s home town to serve the uprooted executive class. Pass the sushi, let’s get down and figure out how to squeeze another dime out of someone’s hide.
