Jim Moran, one of the CAFTA 15–not to mention in the pocket of the credit card industry and a sleazy guy to boot–was given the back of the hand today from a group of union delegates. This guy is the bottom of the pond and should have been taken out long ago, as I opined recently. C’mon, AFSCME, cut this guy off.

Trade. A bloc of union delegates to the Virginia AFL-CIO convention in Tysons Corner walked out of the convention in Tysons Corner today during a speech by Rep. James Moran, D-Va. The action came in protest of Moran’s support of the Central America Free Trade Agreement, labor officials said. One labor source said about one-third of those attending the convention joined the walkout, including representatives of the United Steelworkers of America, Communications Workers of America and United Autoworkers unions. Moran led the pro-CAFTA charge among Democrats and was one of only 15 House Democrats to vote for the pact, which was opposed vigorously by labor unions. The walkout today was just one of a number of protests targeting those 15 and a number of industrial-district Republicans to register unions’ displeasure over CAFTA. A Steelworkers’ spokesman said presidents of union locals will meet today with Rep. Steven LaTourette, R-Ohio, to express their dissatisfaction with his vote in favor of the trade pact. While Moran has consistently supported trade agreements, he has close ties to the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees because of the large number of federal workers in his Northern Virginia district.
