The Greatest Nation On Earth Shouldn’t Jam “Free Trade” Down The Earth’s Throat

I hate to ruin a good party–or at least the world of the liberal bloviators who want everyone to stand in line and praise the president’s speech last night. Heck, I am glad he was there to push for something–ANYTHING–to be done to try to respond to the great crisis we have.

But, I am hurting myself with my self-described "shaking head syndrome" from this line:

Now it’s time to clear the way for a series of trade agreements that would make it easier for American companies to sell their products in Panama, Colombia, and South Korea – while also helping the workers whose jobs have been affected by global competition. If Americans can buy Kias and Hyundais, I want to see folks in South Korea driving Fords and Chevys and Chryslers. I want to see more products sold around the world stamped with three proud words: "Made in America."

Along with the fantasy of embracing the phone debt and deficit "crisis" and the entirely pointless knee-jerk inclusion of tax cuts for business, it is really absurd to insert so-called "free trade" into a speech about creating jobs. They don’t belong together–unless you happen to be a CEO of a flagless multi-national corporation who does not care a wit about "Made in America" but does love the lower wages people are forced to live on in part because of so-called "free trade".

I don’t susbcribe at all to this "greatest nation on earth" mem but, if you do, you’re not living up to that standard by cramming "free trade" down peoples’ throats.
