Mass murder by gun gets obscured by all sorts of fuzzy talk about “national character” and “culture”. But, really, the bottom line is this: it’s the end result of the blood money handed out by the National Rifle Association. Until that stream of blood money stops, either by party decision or public outcry, the river of blood will flow through schools, malls, streets and homes all across the nation. The NRA. That is the source of this scourge.

Open Secrets explains:
The National Rifle Association goes to great lengths (and spends a huge sum of money) to defend the right to bear arms. It is opposed to virtually every form of gun control, including restrictions on owning assault weapons, background checks for gun owners, and registration of firearms.
NRA’s influence is felt not only through campaign contributions, but through millions of dollars in off-the-books spending on issue ads and the like. Following the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks, the NRA supported proposals to arm airline pilots with guns. Between 2001 and 2010, the NRA spent between $1.5 million and $2.7 million on federal-level lobbying efforts. During the 2010 election cycle, the NRA spent more than $7.2 million on independent expenditures at the federal level — messages that advocate for or against political candidates. These messages primarily supported Republican candidates or opposed Democratic candidates.
There is a simple equation for stopping the murder of innocent people. If NRA money is made radioactive — that is, if people announce today that they will run against any incumbent who takes a dime from these immoral scumbags — the flow of blood can stop. We could have real, meaningful gun control and end the taking of lives of little children, and adults, if the NRA was put out of business.
The big donors to the political parties — people like George Soros — can declare: no more money to the party, not a single dime, until there is a blanket commitment not to take NRA money.
UPDATE: Kristof is correct:
We even regulate toy guns, by requiring orange tips — but lawmakers don’t have the gumption to stand up to National Rifle Association extremists and regulate real guns as carefully as we do toys. What do we make of the contrast between heroic teachers who stand up to a gunman and craven, feckless politicians who won’t stand up to the N.R.A.?
UPDATED: And so is Blow:
And while gun control advocates grow more quiet, the gun lobby grows stronger and louder. According to a report issued Friday by the Center for Reponsive Politics’ Open Secrets.org, “For gun rights groups, 2012 was the most active election cycle since 2000. They contributed a total of $3 million to candidates, 96 percent of them Republicans.” By contrast, the group pointed out that “gun control groups contributed less in this election cycle than in any cycle as far back as OpenSecrets has data (1990).”
According to the Web site ThinkProgress, Larry Pratt, the executive director of Gun Owners of America, wasted no time trying to pin Friday’s shooting on gun control advocates. ThinkProgress quoted a statement of his that read, in part: “Gun control supporters have the blood of little children on their hands. Federal and state laws combined to ensure that no teacher, no administrator, no adult had a gun at the Newtown school where the children were murdered. This tragedy underscores the urgency of getting rid of gun bans in school zones.”
Money is buying murder.
The NRA=murder in the streets. Pure and simple.
If you take money from the NRA, you are aiding and abetting violence against innocent people: children, women, men. So, you can sleep at night, Congressperson, you may want to divorce the NRA check from the corpse. But, you can’t. They are connected. Period.
It is simple.
