Well, as many of you know, I am a Yankees season-ticket holder. When the boys from the Bronx were dispatched from the playoffs, I rooted for the Mets to go to the Fall classic–hey, I’m a New Yorker and how can you not root for success for Willy Randolph?
Now that New Yorkers get to wait until spring training to gin up our enthusiasm for the locals, I am throwing my considerable energy behind the Detroit Tigers. Here are my reasons:
1. I’m an American Leaguer.
2. Detroit could use some pick me up.
3. As a proud UAW member, how can I go against the “hometeam”?
4. And as one reader wrote me, “And let’s not forget that Sparky Anderson, former Tigers manager, was the only big league manager to refuse to work with the scabs in spring training ’95.”
‘Nuf said. Tigers in five or six.
