Work–It’s Just A Temporary Thing

Last week, I pointed out that the Senate health care bill was bad for many reasons including the provision that would actually encourages companies to hire people for less money. Seems like that was what people thought would fit right into the current trend sweeping the country:

The hiring of temporary workers has surged, suggesting that the nation’s employers might soon take the next step, bringing on permanent workers, if they can just convince themselves that the upturn in the economy will be sustained.

The hiring of temp workers masks how bad the real-life for workers truly is out there. Temp work is not permanent work–but those numbers add up to people being employed, reducing the official unemployment rate. And the danger is that companies will stay with temp workers for a very long time–and make it a habit.
