Convention Outrage

I think there is a serious issue that demands that SEIU be brought before the highest bodies in the land. It is a plot that I have uncovered–exclusively–and threatens the future of labor. Here it is: no union should be allowed to hold a convention in a place that serves rum. You laugh, you chuckle…think of the number of brain cells that have been sacrificed…and without democratic debate or input from the members. But, since I have no vote here, my voice will be squelched and my eyes will drop from lack of sleep (however, I am now back to even in Blackjack).

In other news, there’s a whole morning here on politics…"We hate Bush…" etc. etc…nice picture of Barack Obama flashed up on the screen to a standing ovation (I think people were standing…my vision is blurred…)

There may be other drama here but the main event will be the debate over a resolution to consolidate all long-term health care workers in the same local in every state. A vocal–but quite small–number of delegates oppose the resolution; most of that opposition will come from the large California local that would potentially see a large number of its members consolidated into a different local. I’d expect a very emotional appeal framed in terms of "rank-and-file" power or "Democracy" but, really, this is also about one local not wanting to cede power, right or wrong. Above is a pic of a billboard that has been placed here in San Juan by the folks who oppose this resolution; there is actually a dueling billboard war here with another one just a stone’s throw away from this one placed by the leadership of SEIU)

My wild guess: the resolution will pass overwhelmingly.
