I thought the end of civilization had arrived with reality T.V. but this morning I’ve been once again reassured that our crazy country can come up with the ever-more bizarre. CNN carried a local video report from a TV station in Latham, New York reporting on a real special wedding (it’s on the CNN website under its video archive). Turns out that Beverly McCutheon, who works as a cashier at the Wal-Mart, decided to have her wedding…at the Wal-Mart. Her friends at work couldn’t get the day off so she decided to bring the wedding to them.
“I think everyone should get married at Wal-Mart,” said the happy bride. “I can shop when I’m done.”Next up: dying next week? Hold you services at Wal-Mart. Before the hearse departs for your burial, Wal-Mart will treat all your mourners to a half-hour shopping spree, putting a smile on their face and wiping the memory of your sad existence away.
Question: did Wal-Mart gin up this story?
I need a scotch.
