You remember good ‘ole Melissa Bean? She’s one of our CAFTA 15–so-called Democrats who voted for the Central American Free Trade Agreement. As a repayment for their votes, the CAFTA 15 have been getting a rush of corporate dollars–you may remember the fundraiser thrown for the CAFTA 15 by a whole raft of business interests.

Well, sweet Melissa has also been the beneficiary of a campaign contribution from the friendly folks at the Beast of Bentonville. I hear to the tune of $2,000. But, word of the donation got out and Bean found herself under some pressure from the United Food and Commercial Workers to return the donation. Which she apparently has done.

I suspect that Bean is still very concerned that she will face a primary opponent next year–and I hear that the recruitment of such a candidate is still very much an active project among labor people.
