Look, I am not happy when wacky Republicans win. But, I am not feeling particularly sorry that Melissa Bean may lose her seat in Illinois:
Vote counting is temporarily on hold for Illinois’ 8th Congressional District where Republican Joe Walsh has a razor-thin lead over Democratic Congresswoman Melissa Bean.
The race has been too close to call.
Walsh declared victory after the election. But the three-term incumbent says she’s waiting for every vote, including thousands of absentee ballots.
The Daily Herald reports that Walsh was 350 votes ahead as of Friday. Walsh has 97,576 votes from Cook, Lake and McHenry counties. That’s compared with Bean’s 97,226.
Bean was only one of 15 Democrats to vote for the Central American Free Trade Agreement. She was terrible on immigration. She sucked up to Republican corporate contributors. I will not shed a tear if she is booted from the House. I will be curious, however, to see if the union vote for her declined over time and perhaps made the difference in her losing–labor did make an issue of her CAFTA vote but did not run a primary opponent against her. But, impressions may have stuck in enough minds to make a difference in such a tight race.
