In route back to NYC (with a little stop over at O’Hare…letting my lungs recover from the casino smoke) and I got a little note from Morty Bahr, president of CWA: “Your message is misleading….by per capita vote, they garnered less than 30 percent.” Morty was referring to my previous assertion that “they” (meaning the Teamsters-UFCW-Laborers-SEIU-UNITE-HERE bloc…I’ve been calling them “the rebels” just for short-hand) had captured support equaling 40 percent of the per capita paid. If you’re wondering what the different is…unions pay per capita (that would be a kind of dues) to the AFL-CIO based on their numbers. But, some unions do not pay per capita on their full membership.
Okay, Morty, even though everyone else seems to think it’s 40 percent, I’ll check out the numbers and correct myself if I’m wrong.
But, I’d really like to know what Morty thinks about the debate itself. Morty?
