It seems petty if it’s deliberate or just plain pathetic if it was forgotten but…the Administration seems, to date, hell bent on effectively ignoring the 70th anniversary of Social Security, which falls this Sunday; historically, Republican and Democratic administrations alike have celebrated important milestones for Social Security. Well, yes, the president and his economic team (along with Republicans and a few Democrats) are hell-bent on destroying probably the most successful social program in our nation’s history…so maybe one way to do so is ignore the chance to mark the birthday.
On the other hand, maybe those guys would rather the whole issue fade away, what with the Adminisration’s complete failure to convince the public that Social Security should be dismantled in favor of private accounts (thank god the stock market has not been as bubbly as the about-to-collapse housing market).
Don’t get me wrong: these guys have been–I know this is hard to believe with this truth-telling group–twisting and manipulating the truth about Social Security’s condition…and using government resources to do so.
I discuss all this today in “The Birthday Bush Wants To Ignore,” the newest installment in my series “Working in America” at TomPaine.com.
So, what do you think?
