Years from now, at a great price in human life and suffering, the corona pandemic will have marked a potential decisive shift in the country because tens of millions of people will have seen that the country’s system and leadership have failed, over many decades, to protect the people. Progressives have a golden opportunity to […]

Remember the election for the Democratic California state party chair? It has stayed sleazy. I circle back with progressive chair candidate Kimberly Ellis to hear the latest—sexism, racism and just plain bully tactics are still the order of the day. Then, just two weeks after I talked about a big-time corporate fleecing of taxpayers in […]

Sometimes, you have to wonder: are Democratic Party leaders dumb or just ideologically bankrupt? I talk to a leading abortion rights advocate, Vicki Saporta, about the foolish suggestion floated by some Democratic leaders that the party would not have a litmus test—and, thus, support with money and resources—candidates who are not pro-choice. How stupid is […]

“Politically speaking, you will be murdered and we will personally take part in murdering you”…that was the message Kimberly Ellis heard from her “sisters” in the California Democratic Party when she began running for the chairmanship of the party. And the “murder” took place—possibly through voter fraud. In her first extensive interview since the election […]

Poof! Before you noticed it, the Federal Reserve Board raised interest rates and, then, no one much talked about it, even though the Fed probably has more power over your job prospects than any politician. So, we talk about The Fed at length with long-time Fed watcher Dean Baker, co-director of the Center for Economic […]

In about one month, a new chair of the Democratic National Committee will be chosen. As part of my on-going series of conversations with the candidates, I speak with New Hampshire state chair Raymond Buckley who has some pretty tough things to say about the DNC. You can go back to hear previous interviews with […]

Yes, friends, taking over the Democratic Party is far from a mirage. Over the course of two days, the political revolution showed it has bite and balls: Berniecrats, and other progressives, won more than 600 seats—over 50 percent of the seats in play—in elections to fill slots for the California Democratic Party state committee. In […]

It’s ugly. Is it terminal? Nothing ever is in politics. But, it’s bad, bad, bad for the Democrats. This week, I looked at the fight over who should be the next chair of the Democratic National Committee—and what that choice will say about the vision of the party. I spoke with Donna Brazile, the interim […]

So, you can be the judge if the Democratic platform is the most progressive platform ever. But, Bernie say, if it, it’s thanks to you! Here is what he had to say in a press statement: Pressed by supporters of U.S. Sen. Bernie Sanders, Democratic Party platform writers meeting this weekend in Orlando, Florida, adopted […]

It is a waste of time to jump up and down and scream about the ludicrous nature of the Republicans “ideas” about the economy, and, specifically, the proposal put forth by John Boehner regarding the phony debt and deficit “crisis”. These people are nuts and, worse, they either lie or are ignorant about the facts when it comes to the economy. So, it’s more important, in my humble opinion, to ponder the proposals floated out there by people who claim to be representing the “left” or “center” and, even more astonishing, “the last good economy”.
